FIFA today released its new world ranking after the last international truce. Although Morocco remains the first African country despite its decline at the global level, several of the continent's selections are making good progress. This is particularly the case in Benin, which has won four places and is ranked 89th in the world.
Morocco remains number one in Africa
Morocco remains the first African nation in the FIFA ranking. The Atlas Lions, however, now occupy the7th place in the world, after reaching 5th position at the end of september.
Senegal remains second in Africa and ranks 18th in the world. Egypt completes the continental podium in 25th world position.
Algeria also takes advantage of this update to gain a place and finds itself28th world, still fourth in Africa. Ivory Coast completes the African top 5 in 29th place.
Benin wins four places
The Guépards realize one of the interesting progresses of this update. Benin passes from the93rd in 89th place worldwide, a four-row gain.
On the continent, Beninese selection also gains a place and is19th in Africain front of Zambia.
This progression came after an encouraging start in the playoffs of CAN 2027. Benin took four points in its first two days, with a draw against Burkina Faso (1-1) and then a victory against Mauritania (2-1). The Guépards then lost 3-0 to Argentina in a friendly match. Despite this setback, the balance sheet of the truce allowed Benin to win four places in the world rankings.
Mali and South Africa are making strong progress
Behind the top 5 African, Mali and South Africa are the most successful of the top 10 continental. The Eagles now occupy the47th world position, while the Bafana Bafana are 48th, with a six-seat gain for each of the two selections.
Angola is also growing by four places and ranks 83rd in the world.
Ghana and Tunisia in decline
The trend is less favourable for some selections. Tunisia lost four places and was 61st in the world. Cape Verde was also back by four in 68th place.
Ghana is more affected by a five-seat decline. Black Stars now occupy the70th world ranking.
Senegal, the second-largest African nation, still holds its 18th place in the world.
