The second round of the African playoffs of the Los Angeles 2028 women's tournament was marked by several important results on Thursday, October 8, 2026. Senegal won in Tunisia (1-0), while Benin took over Mali (3-1). Ghana and Burkina Faso also won their first round.
Senegal imposes in Tunisia
The Lionnes de la Teranga managed a nice operation in Radès. On the move against Tunisia, the Senegalese team won a valuable 1-0 victory.
After a first period without a goal, Ndeye Awa Casset recorded the only performance of the match at the 63rd minute. This success allows Senegal to approach with confidence the return match, scheduled on Tuesday 13 October in Diamniadio. The Tunisians will have to impose themselves to hope to continue in these playoffs.
Benin takes advantage of Mali
In Lomé, the Amazons of Benin also scored the minds by dominant Mali on the score of 3-1. Romaine Gandonou scored a double in the 12th and 16th minutes, before Milhad Sadikou brought the score to 3-0 in the 47th minute.
Aïssata Traoré reduced the gap for the Malians to the 54th minute, without preventing the Beninese victory. Benin's players now have a two-goal lead before the trip to Bamako, scheduled for 13 October.
Burkina Faso also took an option by imposing 3-1 against Equatorial Guinea in Ouagadougou. The ladies' stallions will, however, have to confirm this result during the back sleeve.
Ghana and Kenya stand out
Ghana won an outdoor victory over Mauritius (3-0). Abigail Kim, Alice Kusi and Benedicta Simon all scored in the first period, allowing the Black Queens to take a comfortable lead before the return match in Accra.
Uganda, for its part, created the surprise by beating Zambia 2-1 in Kampala. The Copper Queens will have to react to their audience to reverse the trend.
Kenya signed the largest success of the day by imposing 11-0 against Seychelles. With this gap, the Kenyans approach the round back in a particularly favorable position.
A qualification for the third round at stake
The return matches of this second phase will be played on October 12 and 13. The remaining teams will try to validate their ticket for the third round of the playoffs.
Morocco and Cameroon are already qualified for the remainder of the competition after the withdrawals of their respective opponents, Congo and Guinea. At the end of the five playoffs,two african selectionsrepresent the continent at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games women's tournament;
