Liverpool holds its breath before returning to Manchester City. Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo are uncertain about Sunday's shock.
Both attackers left their respective selections before the end of the international truce. Isak suffers from a thigh problem with Sweden, while Gakpo injured his ankle with the Netherlands.
This double concern comes at the wrong time for the Reds. Both players made a convincing start to the season and occupy an important place in the offensive animation of the team of Andoni Iraola. They both scored five of Liverpool's seven goals in the Premier League this season.
Iraola awaits medical verdict
For now, Liverpool does not know yet whether its two attackers will be sufficiently recovered to face Manchester City. Iraola confirmed that both players are injured and that their presence will depend on their recovery in the next few days.
The case of Isak remains particularly monitored. The Swede regained his efficiency after a complicated first season in Liverpool. He already has four goals in the Premier League and has weighed more in the Reds since the beginning of this exercise.
Gakpo, other essential part
Cody Gakpo also represents a potentially heavy loss. The Dutchman had started the season on excellent bases, with two goals and four assists in six appearances in all competitions. His relationship with Isak also proved effective.
Liverpool may therefore have to review its offensive options if both players do not recover in time. Bradley Barcola, Víctor Muñoz or Florian Wirtz could be asked more.
The shock against Manchester City is scheduled for Sunday, October 11. Until then, Iraola hopes to recover its two main offensive weapons.
